What is GalaFLEX?
GalaFLEX is a biologically derived scaffold used in cosmetic breast surgery to provide additional soft tissue support, especially in cases of breast lifts (mastopexy), combined breast lift with an implant, or cosmetic revisions where tissue strength may be compromised. GalaFLEX is made from poly-4-hydroxybutyrate, it is a resorbable polymer that integrates with the patient’s natural tissue over time, enhancing long-term structural support by leaving improved tissue strength once the material is resorbed by the body.
How GalaFLEX Works
During surgery, the GalaFLEX mesh is placed within the breast where it acts like an internal bra. This helps maintain the shape and position of the breast by redistributing weight and supporting weakened tissue.
As the body heals, the scaffold gradually dissolves in totality, typically over 12 to 18 months, while stimulating collagen production. The result is a long-term support made from the patient’s own tissue.
Benefits of GalaFLEX
GalaFLEX is particularly beneficial in cases where the skin has thinned or sagged, such as after weight loss or pregnancy, or in patients undergoing revision surgeries after previous implants. It minimizes the risk of recurrent ptosis (sagging) and provides a more stable and aesthetically pleasing breast contour.
